The Natura 2000 Network is a set of protected natural areas at the level of the European Union with the aim of conserving biodiversity and the survival of species and habitats. It is the main nature conservation instrument of the European Union and is made up of Special Conservation Zones (ZEC) and Special Protection Zones for Birds (ZEPA).
On the occasion of the celebration of the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network, this May 21, 2020 a themed painting workshop was held at the ASPACE CORUÑA facilities, in the municipality of Sada, in coordination with the Mariñas Biosphere Reserve Coruñesas and Terras do Mandeo.
The initiative is part of the dissemination and awareness-raising actions of the LIFE FLUVIAL project (LIFE16 NAT / ES / 000771), of which the Biosphere Reserve is a part.
ASPACE is a pioneer entity in Galicia in comprehensive care for people with cerebral palsy that works to improve their quality of life and that of their families. He is part of the group of partners of the Mariñas Betanzos Rural Development Association, the managing body of the Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve.
The collaboration between both entities on environmental matters had already scheduled a volunteer and awareness day at the end of March on the danger of invasive alien species, which had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis.
The Biosphere Reserve has four ZECs within the Natura 2000 Network (Encoro de Abegondo-Cecebre, Costa da Morte, Betanzos-Mandeo and Costa de Dexo). Within this theme, the motive chosen by ASPACE was the realization of a mural on the Costa de Dexo (ES1110009) in Oleiros, in whose composition a dozen users of the center participated.
